Background

Nepal’s rapidly evolving higher education landscape presents both challenges and opportunities. To address these pressing issues, a National Vice Chancellors’ Conference is imperative. These challenges include the need to harmonize education standards, curriculum structures, and quality assurance mechanisms across the diverse higher education institutions in Nepal to ensure a uniformly high-quality education for all students. Additionally, in the fostering collaboration with neighboring countries’ educational institutions, particularly India, is essential in an increasingly globalized world to enhance academic exchange, research, and resource sharing. Moreover, tackling the issue of the mass exodus of Nepali students seeking education abroad is critical, as it poses a significant threat to the country’s intellectual capital and overall development. Lastly, embracing the internationalization of national higher education is imperative to expose Nepali students and institutions to global perspectives, enhance academic quality, and drive innovation and research in line with global trends in higher education.

 

Objective

The National Vice Chancellors’ Conference aims to bring together key stakeholders to address critical issues in Nepali higher education, promote regional collaboration, and internationalize the national higher education system. This conference will provide a platform for insightful discussions and collaborative efforts to reorient the direction of higher education in Nepal.

Promoting Unified Regional Higher Education

To explore ways to harmonize higher education standards and practices in Nepal, taking into consideration best practices from India and other regional educational systems.

 
 

Fostering Internationalization of Nepali Higher Education

To devise strategies and frameworks that encourage internationalization of Nepali higher education institutions, including partnerships with foreign universities, faculty exchange programs, and joint research initiatives.

Aligning Nepali Education with Regional Higher Education

To facilitate collaboration with the regional higher education institutions to bridge the gap, promote mutual recognition of qualifications, and encourage student and faculty mobility between the two countries.

To discuss and establish mechanisms for quality assurance and accreditation in Nepali higher education, ensuring that institutions meet global standards.

Addressing the Issue of Student Exodus

To brainstorm strategies that can retain talent within Nepal by improving the quality and relevance of higher education programs, creating a conducive environment for research and innovation, and offering opportunities for career development.
